Receiving your first truck without the chaos
Before the truck arrives, have the purchase order open and the receiving team briefed: who checks quantity, who checks condition, who puts away. A ten-minute huddle prevents an hour of arguing at the dock.
Scan every carton as it comes off the truck, and note damage on the spot — not later, not from memory. A photo of a crushed corner today is worth a week of email disputes next month.
Put away to a real location immediately, even if it’s a temporary one. "Somewhere near the door" is how inventory goes missing for three months and reappears during a stock count.
Close the receipt the same day and check the variance against the PO. Small shortages caught today become credits tomorrow; small shortages found in December become arguments.
